Altona Library is gearing up for a day of cars, cars, and more cars, with several events planned to draw out the car-loving crowd. Planner, Rachael Friesen, is excited about the fun scheduled for Saturday (April 27), both inside the library and outside in the library parking lot.

“I have Steve Van Vlaenderen coming out [with his] book, Vanishing Wheels. It's like a coffee table book where he's taken pictures of abandoned vehicles.  All of the proceeds of the book go to Parkinson's [research].”

Friesen explains that Van Vleanderen has Parkinson’s. He will be sharing his story of photographing vintage cars on the prairies in the library at 1 pm. He will speak about his book, as well as sell and sign books together with his partner, Darlene Hildebrand.

Legends Car Club will also be making an appearance Saturday.

"They are going to bring as many members as they can. Plus, anybody who has a classic car and wants to come show it off is welcome to come. It will be kind of like a mini show and shine."

In addition, there will be mini car racing demos by Tamiya South MB Mini 4WD Club. Friesen explains that tracks will be set up on the mall parking lot, just outside of the library.

"I saw pictures of the track. They're gigantic. The mini cars are about the size of a phone. The cars are electric and they race them on the track. It sounds like tons of fun."

Vanishing cars book Steve Van Vlaenderen and his partner, Darlene Hildebrand, will be making a presentation at the Altona Library at 1 pm.

Friesen explains that the Altona Library has the day planned for anybody that likes cars, or books, and all are invited to enjoy the day!
