It is Emergency Preparedness Week, and the Town of Altona will be testing its outdoor warning siren today at Noon. The test happens each year in order verify that the equipment is working properly.
The warning siren will go off at Noon today and sound for 4 minutes.
Additionally, the siren will continue to be tested, as per usual, every day for a few seconds at Noon.
When Altona is threatened by any hazard, the siren is designed to alert anyone outdoors of a potential emergency and let them know to seek shelter. When the siren sounds for longer than 30 seconds, seek shelter and tune in to CFAM 950 AM on your radio to find out what the threat is and how to protect yourself.
In case you are indoors during an emergency, be sure to sign up for emergency alert notifications to your email, cell phone, or landline through the Altona CONNECT system through the Town's website or by calling 204-324-6468.
Meantime, the Town, in collaboration with the Municipality of Rhineland, is hosting the second annual Emergency Preparedness Expo on Thursday, May 9th from 6pm to 8:30 p.m. at the Millenium Exhibition Centre in Altona.
The free, family-friendly drop-in event is a chance to learn more about how you and your family can be prepared for an emergency, check out emergency vehicles and equipment up-close, and find out what Emergency Preparedness looks like in the Town of Altona and Municipality of Rhineland.
