Maple Leaf Construction has been awarded Altona's million-dollar road renewal contract that was prioritized in the Town's 2024 budget.

"(They) submitted the most competitive bid out of five that we received," explained Mayor Harv Schroeder.

A pre-construction meeting will happen early this month to determine the order that crews will address the priority streets. The plan, noted Schroder, is to do mill and fill on each of the roads, the same work that was done on the Town's Main Street last year. "Those projects, usually you can look at a lifespan of twenty to twenty-five years."

According to Schroeder, there's about 4,000 linear metres on 26 local roads that have been pegged as requiring some mill and fill work.

Work is expected to get underway by summer.
