The Altona Community Foundation has been giving back to the community for over 20 years, and members are gearing up to soon hand out its fall grants.  Grants are disbursed each spring and fall to organizations in Altona, Gretna, Rosenfeld and R.M. of Rhineland, excluding Plum Coulee.

President Perry Batchelor said the foundation expects to disburse between $20,000 and $25,000 this cycle.

Last year the foundation handed out $47,000 in grants.

The Altona Community Foundation has a capital fund of $1.25-million, and Batchelor said grant money comes out of the fund's interest.  "Where does that money come from?  Our donors," said Batchelor.  "We very much appreciate our donors, but we're always looking for more donors."

Information on criteria and how to apply for a grant can be found on the foundation's website.

Meanwhile, Batchelor said they will hold their 24 Hours of Giving campaign in November.   More information on the campaign will be made available soon.
