It's been the number one question asked in Altona since the heat hoarding tarps came off the building about a week ago... when is the new Tim Hortons opening? Franchisee Rupesh Patel notes the project has faced some delays, but he is now looking forward to opening some time next week.

"I'm hoping to be fully operational by early next week," he shared noting the expectation is any remaining things to be finished up will be outside the restaurant. "Some of the things like the line painting, or those kind of things in the parking lot might not be done because of the weather. We will probably be missing the canopies for the drive-thru."

So far, about two dozen people have been hired to work in the restaurant, and Patel hopes to hire another eight to ten, aiming to fill some of those roles once the school year is over.

Meanwhile, Patel is very excited to finally have an opening date in sight, and is already looking forward to the Altona Tim Hortons first Smile Cookie Week expected at the end of April/beginning of May.

"The smile cookie beneficiary this year will be the Altona and Area Family Resource group," he announced. "We're hoping to break the record we set in Morris raising $25,000. In Morris, if 1,800 people can do it, I can see if we band together as a community, it's possible."

Patel also operates Tim Hortons franchises in Swan River, Thompson and Morris.
