Students in Sanford have some extra reading material thanks to a group from Carman Collegiate. Seventh graders Coltyn, Lexie and Lily organized a campaign to collect books for students displaced from J.A. Cuddy School following a damaging fire this summer. The trio hit their target of 500 to 1,000 books and on November 1st delivered 614 to the elementary school.

Principal Scott Thomson, Librarian Lori Dufresne and some J.A. Cuddy students were on hand to receive the books.

"These J.A. Cuddy students represent all of our school in thanking you," Thomson told the Carman students.

Dufresne said with the books and similar donations, including through the Indigo Adopt A School program, the school now has enough books to add to each of its temporary classrooms and to expand the school library, including replacing damaged books, when the school re-opens.

Half of the school is expected to re-open in the coming weeks.

The Carman Collegiate students thank the community for its support including Carman Elementary students who donated books at their school and to Boyne Regional Library patrons who dropped off books at the town library.
