Sunday the Access Event Centre turned back the clocks and remembered a rock and roll legend, Elvis Presley. Hundreds of people attended the final of three 'Elvis and the Blackwoods' concerts which saw Manitoba's Elvis Tribute Artist Corny Rempel perform along side the Blackwoods from Knoxville, TN.

"Morden is so much fun. We were here last year and brought the Blackwoods back by popular demand and it has been so much fun," said Rempel.

Rempel noted this concert tour originally started last year when the Blackwood's manager made contact with Rempel asking if he would be interested in doing some shows with them in Manitoba and it blossomed from there. Rempel noted last year they did a pair of shows, and this year there were three, Steinbach, Winnipeg, and Morden.

The Blackwoods, have known Elvis their whole lives until his passing.

"Once we got here and got to know Corny (Rempel), we just fell in love with him. We had two great shows with him and were ecstatic to find out this time we had three on the tour," said Mark Blackwood. "Now we are talking about coming back and extending that even more, and maybe to more areas of Canada."

One of the more powerful songs Rempel performed this year was 'Stand By Me'. This song is meaningful for Rempel because last year his father-in-law, who helps volunteer during the shows, was diagnosed with prostate cancer and found hope in the song.

"When he (his father-in-law) heard that song, he didn't know where his cancer journey was going to take him. The words in that song carried him through," said Rempel. "Thou who never lost a battle, stand by me. That helped him know who it was standing with him through this journey. The one who was with him has never lost a battle and that's powerful and he took that song with him every time he went for treatments or anything. That line stuck with him and it was an honour to sing that song again tonight."

Rempel went on to state you never know who is in the crowd, and if they can find a sense of hope in that song as well.
