A former Altona police officer could likely face significant jail time after pleading guilty to several child pornography charges.

The 35 year old man appeared in a Winnipeg court where he pleaded guilty to three counts of making child pornography in connection with three victims and an additional count of possessing child pornography in connection to a youth he met in his capacity as a police officer.

All the victims were under the age of 17.

In early December 2014 the RCMP Internet Child Exploitation Unit and the RCMP Winnipeg major crime unit helped Altona Police Service investigate allegations against one of its own members. The officer was immediately suspended with pay and shortly after resigned from the police service.

The Crown is seeking a significant prison sentence. Sentencing will take place in an Altona court, but no date has been set at this time.
