Chris Harms has finished his first camping season as Site Manager at Pembina Valley Bible Camp. Harms started with the camp earlier this Spring after leaving a job in banking and moving his family on-site in the Pembina Valley.

He says the position is more than a job, but a chance to combine vocation with faith.

"We realized me being gone ten hours a day for work wasn't our ideal desire for our family," Harms says. "So we started pursuing God and asking for an assignment that might include work and family in one."

Growing up at the camp will be an experience his kids will never forget, Harms says.

Chris along with Audrey, Alexx, Skylar, Bentley and Kaelan moved to PVBC this spring to follow his calling to serve teens and pre-teens

"Just growing as a family, and as a camp family as well has been really neat," he says. "The biggest takeaway for my family is just learning to serve together. It's something we'll probably be growing in."

Along with leading the many programs and activities, he notes ministering to campers is a large part of their work. Harms explains they saw approximately 250 campers from a range of backgrounds and across Manitoba. Some, he notes, come with more emotional baggage than others.

"That in itself is a challenge," he says. "Just working through and processing some of that stuff with them and counselling, but the exciting part is seeing God break through. Some of our hardest, most difficult weeks were also our biggest praises at the end of the week."

Looking ahead to next fall, Harms says they will see significant staff changes, with openings in administration, maintainance and summer ministry director positions.
