Hundreds of people in Altona lined up to participate in the Ford Drive 4UR Community event organized by Rhineland Car on the weekend.

A total of 461 people registered to take a Ford vehicle for a test drive on Saturday and help raise funds for the Altona Elks Club.

Under the program, Ford of Canada donates $20 for every test drive completed at these events. According to Rhineland Car owner Jim Dick, this is the third such event they have organized this year.

"We always think it's real good value for the people we partner with, because its an easy way to raise funds, and it's fun for us because we get to see a lot of our customers and a lot of people in a non-pressured environment."

This time around, the local Elks Club was the target of Ford's generosity. The fundraising goal was $6,000 and to this point, Ford Canada has confirmed 285 registrations, which amounts to $5,700 for the Elks Club.

The service organization is spearheading the construction of an indoor play structure for Altona's Millennium Exhibition Centre and has been fundrasing for the past year. The money raised through the test drive event will go directly toward the $90,000 Playland structure.

"With this, we should be done," said club president Geri Pappel, referring to their fundraising campaign. "Everything has been ordered and we're waiting for the parts to come in, so we hope to have the structure up for the kids by November."
