With two RONA stores in the region, one in Winkler and another in Rosenort, Lowe's $3.2 billion acquisition deal could have ripple effects locally.

"It came as a shock to me," Tyler Dueck says, Owner of RONA Valley Enterprises in Rosenort. Dueck says they heard the rumblings of a takeover in 2012 but nothing since. Lowe's made an unsuccessful $1.8 billion bid to acquire the Canadian-based company in 2012.

However, he explains as an independently owned store the Rosenort location may not change significantly. He says they expect the RONA name to remain.

In a release, RONA Chairman, Robert Chevrier explains Lowe's presented a plan that, "enables our company to maintain its brand power while at the same time leveraging Lowe's global presence to build upon and expand our reach."

"The day to day activities will stay the same," Dueck says, adding he's excited to see the positive changes the acquisition may bring in the long run.

"Joining forces adds buying power," he says. "Lower prices are always good, I'm excited."

RONA Spokesperson Valerie Gonzalo explains while the acquisition transaction is not complete, the goal of the deal is overall growth and they don't expect store closures. The acquisition will also bring the addition of appliances to the RONA locations.

"With commitments made by Lowe's to our employees, potential new markets for Canadian manufacturers and product offerings for our independent dealers, this transaction presents the ideal opportunity for the continued growth of our company while delivering an attractive premium for our shareholders," Chevrier says in the release.

The acquisition is expected to be finalized in June.
