The Town of Morris is looking to upgrade its waste and recycling program.

With the current contract expiring, the town wants to move to a cart system for garbage and recycling.

A cart system for compost material pickup is also being considered.

Mayor Gavin van der Linde explains why the switch is being made.

“It will give them (residents) the opportunity to hopefully divert more,” he said. “When we have a good system like this, people tend to recycle more and divert more organic waste. When we have compost material and organics going into the landfill, it's a waste.”

Van der Linde notes that council is currently looking through a number of tenders and he expects a decision to be made in the next few weeks.

The new garbage collection system is scheduled to go live in January.
