Canada's public alerting system, Alert Ready, will be tested today.

At 1:55 p.m., an emergency alert test message will be sent out on multiple communication channels, including CFAM 950, Country 88.9 and The Eagle 93-5, as well tv and compatible wireless devices. Not all Manitobans will receive the test alert on their mobile devices, however, due to various reasons including device compatibility, connection to an LTE network, cell tower coverage and device software and settings.

In a news release, the Province said testing of all of these components is an important and necessary part of any public alerting system and provides an opportunity to validate and improve the end-to-end performance and reliability of the system to ensure it operates as it is intended. Additionally, test alerts educate the public on what an emergency alert will look and sound like in the event of a life-threatening situation.

Again, at 1:55 p.m. today, an emergency alert test message will be sent out on multiple communication channels through Alert Ready.
