Numbers were down at this past weekend's Morris Legion banquet. The banquet is held annually as a thank you to the Ladies Auxiliary in which the men prepare the banquet and the ladies are invited to attend for free.

The Auxiliary works hard at raising funds, cooking and organizing the Legion and has been providing these services for over seventy years.

"This years banquet held a special awards presentation to the auxiliary for seventy years of service," said legion secretary, Tim Lewis.

Years of service pins were also handed out at this event. Lewis mentioned that some members were marking forty years of service with the legion.

Lewis also explained why the thought numbers were down

The Legion promotes the welfare of local veterans, their wives and widows. The organization has provided man power and financial assistance of over $200,000 in the community on projects like the local library, Manitoba Stampede, and the Morris Hospital.
