For the second time, staff and students from the three Brandon High Schools are teaming up to host the 2016 Manitoba Student Leadership Conference.

Student Council members from École secondaire Neelin High School, Vincent Massey High School and Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School have worked with their teacher leaders to organize the conference. Their challenge to other Manitoba High School students is to out-cheer, out-lead and out stand; by making a difference in all aspects of their lives.

Organizers want students to know whether they realize it or not, they lead by example. Believing that one small act can grow into many possibilities.

The Manitoba Student Leadership Conference has the goal of putting like-minded student leaders in contact with each other to network and gain support and ideas for their own schools” said Student Council Teacher Advisor Jamie Harrison.

The Conference will be held October 12th and 13th at the International Peace Garden. Approximately 200 high school students and 30 teachers from across Manitoba will be attending.

“Students will be taking part in keynote presentations from Kevin Lamoureau, instructor at the University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba; and Rebecca Powell, leadership consultant and educator.”

Students will also have access to a trade show, complete with booths from Universities, colleges, and businesses.

“It is the hope that through this conference these young leaders will gain confidence, make contacts, develop new skills, and increase their knowledge and spirit to take back to their schools to bring about a positive change” said Harrison.
