A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Stephen Street earlier last week.

On July 20th, Morden Police were dispatched to a pedestrian and motor vehicle accident. The pedestrian was crossing Stephen Street walking southbound at 8th Street when vehicle travelling north on 8th Street turned west onto Stephen Street and failed to see the pedestrian crossing. The pedestrian was struck, hitting the hood and windshield of the vehicle sustaining injuries to her head and foot. She was treated for a broken clavical and released from hospital later that day. The driver has been charged with failing to yield the right of way to a pedestrian under the Highway Traffic Act.

July 18th, 2016
Police were called to a motor vehicle accident around 9:35 am that occurred at Parkhill Drive and Cairo Bay in Morden. Police attended to find a single vehicle with damage to the front end and passenger’s front tire. A light standard had been struck, causing the lamp to fall from the top of the post. The driver of the vehicle advised that he swerved to miss a cat that ran across the road, hit the curb and then hit the light standard. There were no injuries as a result of the accident.

July 18th, 2016
Police have charged a 43-year-old male from Morden with assault after receiving a report that a child was kicked in the chest. The accused was visiting and looking after the victim who was in their room upset and kicking at the door. The accused opened the door and kicked the child in the chest. The accused then apologized and gave the victim some money. Police arrested the accused after conducting an interview with the victim. The accused admitted that he pushed the child but did not kick them. He will be appearing in Morden Provincial Court in September.

July 18th, 2016
Police received a report of a hit and run accident that occurred on July 11th around 5:00 pm. The owner parked his vehicle in the south parking lot of Care Dental in Morden and when he returned to his vehicle, he noticed damage to the driver’s side rear fender. The vehicle that was damaged is a 2016 red Nissan Murano. July 18th, 2016
Morden Police conducted two MPI sponsored Distracted Driving Checkstops July 18th and 20th. Six drivers were charged for using a Cellular phone or other electronic hand held device. Police also issued one offence notice for driving while prohibited, two drivers were charged for driving while suspended and another for drive an unregistered motor vehicle.

July 21st, 2016
A vehicle travelling north on Colert Beach Road around midnight was observed to have no taillights. Police stopped the vehicle and while speaking with the driver, observed a heavy smell of fresh marihuana coming from inside and an object in the counsel used for illegal drug consumption. While conducting their investigation, police seized a small quantity of marihuana along with other paraphernalia found inside the vehicle. The 18-year-old driver along with a 19 year old passenger, were issued warnings for possession of a controlled substance.

July 21st, 2016
A resident received a phone call from someone stating they were from President’s Choice Bank where the resident in fact has accounts. The caller quoted the person’s credit card numbers and had the person confirm they were correct. The caller then asked for the person Social Insurance number and it was provided. After the call ended, the person contacted the bank and he was informed that this was in fact a fraud. His credit cards were cancelled and his Social Insurance number was flagged for illegal activity. Police are reminding the public never to give out any personal information to people over the phone, especially banking or credit card information.

July 22nd, 2016
A vehicle was damaged while parked in front of 536 Stephen Street in Morden sometime yesterday between 8:30 am and noon. Damaged was noticed to the passenger’s side wheel well of the 2015 blue Dodge Journey. July 22nd, 2016
A 38 year old female from Morden has been charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and breach of a peace bond. Police were called to a residence where a female was believed to be intoxicated, causing a disturbance and not to be with her boyfriend whom she is currently drinking with. The accused, who was intoxicated, answered the door and began yelling and swearing at police demanding to know why they were there. Police explained the reason for being called at which time the accused tried to slam the door shut. Police managed to get hold of the accused and placed her under arrest. While dealing with the accused, the boyfriend began yelling and screaming and spit towards the officers. The female was transported to the Morden Police Service where she continued to be belligerent and uncooperative. While escorting the accused to the holding cells, she attempted to pull away from police and run to the door. While attempting to bring the individual under control, she managed to kick one of the officers twice before being placed into cells. The accused was released the next day on a Promise to Appear and will be appearing in Morden Provincial Court in September.
