The Pilot Mound Pilots are Border West Baseball League Champions after winning the best-of-five final series three games to one.

"It feels pretty good. It's been a few years since Pilot Mound has been able to win it. So, it's pretty nice," said starting pitcher Tyson McConnell.

The Pilots scored three runs in the third and three more in the fourth inning en-route to a 7-2 win over the Winkler Whips Monday night.

Pilot Mound's other run came in the second inning when McConnell came across home plate to score the teams first run. Meanwhile, the Whips tallied their two runs in the fourth.

John Elias got the start for the Whips, and tossed three innings and was pulled after giving up a single in the fourth. Elias was tagged for five runs on six hits, and walked two. Marv Quiring came in relief of Elias and gave up two runs on two hits, walked a batter and struck out a pair.

McConnell started for the Pilots and went 4 and 2/3rd innings and was charged with both Whips runs. Anthony Friesen pitched a scoreless rest of the game for the Pilots.

It was the Whips inaugural season, and to make it to the final in your first year is a great starting point.

"For an expansion team to go to the finals with a bunch of guys who have never played or haven't played in five or six years," said Whips manager Jeremy Matuszewski. "We'll take that for sure."
