Producers in our area are managing to work their way through this year's corn harvest. Extreme moisture this year has kept field conditions very wet in places, creating some significant challenges in harvesting most crops right now.

"There were definitely some challenges in some of the wetter areas and guys a still struggling with that, but depending on how much rain fell and where the water puddled, those are the fields that are at the tail end of the harvest," said Letellier area farmer Allan Calder who was able to finish off his corn late last week.

He feels local producers are getting closer to the end of the harvest, although the weather tends to interfere in that process from time to time.

According to Calder, the quality of his grain corn was fairly good with manageable moisture levels, but yields are a different story altogether.

"They are all over the place, probably starting at below 100 bushels per acre with reports of over 200, so it's a huge range. For the most part, though, I think everyone was pleasantly pleased with the results they've had on the fields so far."
