Members of the RCMP Internet Child Exploitation Unit, or I.C.E visited Dominion City and Altona this week, to promote safety for kids when it comes to using technology and social media.

Just about everyone owns some sort of device. Smart phones and social media seem to be a way of life for youth, something most of us parents did not grow up with.

The I.C.E unit presents "Before You Hit Send" presentation to kids around the province, visiting schools and talking to kids in grades five to twelve. Too many youth are posting intimate images of themselves that could have the potential to cause real harm to an individual or others.

The I.C.E Unit investigates on average five hundred and twenty incidents of sexting on a yearly basis. Ninty Five percent of those incidents involve young girls sending out semi-nude or nude photos of themselves to others or posting them to social media. News Reporter Rochelle Rawdon caught up with Constable Gordon Olson at the presentation at Roseau valley School in Dominion City Thursday. Olson explained what the presentation is all about.
