The Brandon Wheat Kings meet the Magog Cantonniers today (3 p.m.) in the gold medal game at the 2024 Telus Cup in Membertou, Nova Scotia. Brady Turko had three goals and an assist as the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League champions defeated the Calgary Buffaloes 4-1 in the semifinals. Easton Odut also scored for the Wheat Kings. Burke Hood made 35 saves in net for Brandon. The Cantonniers downed the Markham Waxers 7-3 in the other semifinal.


Canada will face Switzerland today (11 a.m.) at the 2024 World U18 Hockey Championship in Vantaa, Finland. Canada has a 2-0 preliminary round record.


The Winnipeg Jets take on the Colorado Avalanche today (1:30 p.m.) in Denver in game four of the NHL’s best-of-seven Western Conference quarterfinal. The Avalanche lead the series two games to one after beating the Jets 6-2 on Friday night.


Montreal and Boston were winners in the PWHL Saturday afternoon. Ann-Renee Desbiens made 31 saves as Montreal blanked Ottawa 2-0. Montreal moved into first place with 41 points, three more than Toronto who does have a game in hand. Hannah Brandt scored with 2.7 seconds left in regulation to lift Boston past Minnesota 2-1.


Canadian teams skipped by Susan Froud of Alliston, Ontario and Paul Flemming of Halifax, Nova Scotia won gold at the 2024 World Senior Curling Championships in Oestersund, Sweden. Fround defeated Virginija Paulauskaite of Lithuania 7-3 while Flemming shaded Mike Farbelow of the United States 4-3.
