To say the 2011 Steps for Pets fundraiser for the Pembina Valley Humane Society was a success is an understatement. The event was held for the third time in Morden and second time in Carman last weekend.
In Carman, $2,000 was raised up from $300 last year. In Morden, pledges went from $11,000 to just under $14,000 this year. That combined with contributions from a number of businesses, a total of $21,000 was raised.
The number of participants also increased substantially in both communities. In Carman last year there were 5 participants. This year that number grew to 27. In Morden the number jumped from around 70 in 2010 to 114 this year.
Frost explains what this support does.
Frost adds a similar event in Brandon has grown to the point where they are raising up to $40,000, which is something they would like to reach for in the future.
