Winkler Arts and Culture (WAC) raised over $10,000 this weekend at the Party At The Tower fundraiser.

WAC Executive Director Wendy Klassen explains for a first-time event the party was a hit with guests.

"It was a phenomenal time," Klassen says. "We plan on having it every year, and I think people are going to want to be here because it was great."

Klassen explains the highlight was long awaited raffle draw for a motorcycle, donated by Harv Thiessen of WBS Construction. Tickets first went on sale during the Winkler Harvest Festival this summer. Winner Kevin Loewen of Winkler went home with the new ride.

Attendees were encouraged to wear masks and dress up for the masquerade inspired event. The party at the gallery also featured live jazz music, games and food. Klassen notes the art gallery was the perfect back-drop for the special event.

"It gives a party a whole new feel," she says, adding many took in the current art exhibit as well. While the Culture Days exhibit is coming to a close, the fresh takes on fairy stories, Memory Tales is coming later this week.

The Winkler Arts and Culture Centre officially opened in the former water treatment plant at 547 Park St. this fall.
