The effect of a devastating tornado touchdown was simulated in Morden tonight.

The Southern Emergency Response Committee, along with the Morden Fire Department and the Boundary Trails Health Centre, are hosting a mock disaster exercise at various locations around the city. The exercise began at 6:00 p.m.

-The public is reminded this is a training exercise to prepare emergency responders for a large scale disaster response-

8:56 p.m - Test event concludes.

8:30 p.m - SERC holds press conference.

8:00 p.m - SERC advises public to Shelter in Place unless otherwise instructed by emergency personnel. Tune to local radio for updates as they become available.

7:47 p.m - City of Morden declares State of Emergency.

7:40 p.m - Anhydrous leak reported at Superior Propane at 31 Jefferson St. in Morden. Evacuation notice for everyone 1.3 km Southeast of accident site.

7:26 p.m - Dozens of volunteers simulated injuries at the parking lot at Access Event Centre. Fire and Ambulance on scene. Bus overturned. Crews working to extricate volunteers from inside vehicles.

7:12 - p.m - HAZMAT responds to simulated ammonia leak on Entreprise St.

7:08 p.m - Structure fire at Morden Fire Department Training Ground

7:03 p.m - Reports of simulated chlorine leak South of Morden Airport

7:01 p.m - Emergency crews called to 3M plant for search and technical rescue.

6:51 p.m - Morden Fire requests assistance from Winkler Fire Department.

6:40 p.m - SERC sets up an Emergency Operations Centre at the Morden Civic Centre.

6:31 p.m - First call comes in to Morden Fire Department, requesting a water rescue at Lake Minnewasta.

6:20 p.m - First responders begin preparing at the Access Event Centre parking lot.

6:00 p.m - Emergency crews hold a briefing at Morden Fire Hall.
