The following is the Winkler Police Service Report for the period of September 12 to 18, 2016, as submitted by the department.

Our Police Service opened 111 files during the past week.  Here are some of those files.

September 13th:
Shortly before 5:00 p.m., officers received a call for immediate assistance at a residence on Parmount Bay, being advised that a man had been assaulted by his son.  The suspect was gone from the residence when officers arrived.  Paramedics were called to assist the victim, who advised that he had been pushed down by his son, and then punched several times in the head.  The victim was transported to Boundary Trails Health Center where he was treated for his injury and released.  The victim’s son presented himself at the Winkler Police Station later in the day.  The investigation determined that the son had been asked by his father to sell several of his firearms.  An argument ensued over the amount of money the father believed he had coming to him from those sales, which ended after the assault.  A 29 year old male from Altona has been charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm. He was released for a Morden Court appearance next month.

September 17th:
A 44 year old male who began serving a six month Conditional Sentence Order just last month, was arrested after officers observed him breach several conditions of that order. The Conditional Sentence Order was for a conviction of Possessing Marihuana for the Purpose of Trafficking, and stated the man must abide by 24 hour curfew, must abstain from the consumption and possession of alcohol, and not to attend a licensed establishment whose business is primarily engaged in the sale of alcohol.  At approximately 4:00 p.m., officers observed the suspect in a pickup truck which attended a beer vendor in Winkler. The suspect entered and returned carrying beer he had purchased inside.  The man was remanded into custody and transported to the Winnipeg Remand Centre to await a court appearance in Winnipeg on the 19th of September, charged with three allegations of Non-Compliance with a Conditional Sentence Order.

September 17th:
At approximately 10:35 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle on Provincial Road 428 and found the 17 year old male driver operating the vehicle while under a driver’s licence suspension.  A strong odor of fresh marihuana was detected in the vehicle.  A search of the vehicle produced several small quantities of marihuana, a marihuana bong, $280.00 in twenty dollar bills, scales, plastic baggies (261), and a cell phone.  The youth, who has received two previous police cautions for offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, has been charged for Possession of a Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, and for Driving While Disqualified. He was released to his father and is scheduled for a November court appearance.

As well during this week, officers made three other minor seizures under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, investigated several thefts and mischiefs, several reports of suspicious persons, and one incident under the Fatal Inquiries Act.

Traffic enforcement efforts resulted in 26 offence notices being issued,
