Greg Zimmerman is looking forward to taking the Altona/Rhineland Fire Department to the next level. The new Fire Chief starts the job December 5th. Zimmerman is a former Assistant Fire Marshall for the Government of the Northwest Territories and the current Fire Chief in The Pas.

"My wife and I were looking a little closer to civilization," he explained when asked what attracted him to the job. "Just so happened the job in Altona came up, I made an application for it and was successful." Zimmerman adds Altona is a very well organized community as are the emergency services run through Altona and the Municipality of Rhineland. "It was very attractive in (submitting my name)."

"I feel very fortunate to take over a well-established, trained and equipped fire department, a job well done by my predecessor," said Chief Zimmerman. "I am very excited on becoming the newest member of the town’s dynamic and progressive team, and my wife and I are looking forward to becoming members of the community."

He adds the sky is the limit as far as the Department's future is concerned, noting however that any plans he may have are second to those of both councils and area residents.

Chief Zimmerman and his wife Maureen have one grown son Michael, daughter-in-law Sara and three grandchildren William, Penelope and Russel.
