It's been about two weeks since a massive severe storm tore through the Pembina Valley leaving dozens of trees down in its wake, and damaging what's believed to be the second oldest cottonwood in Manitoba. The tree is well over 100 years old, and is located in the southeast corner of Confederation Park in Morden. It was severely damaged during the storm which had winds top out at 111 kilometers per hour in the city.

Mayor Ken Wiebe tells us City staff are doing everything they can to save the tree.

 

 

Wiebe feels about two-thirds of the canopy was broken off in the storm, narrowly missing an apartment building just a few dozen feet away.
