Roseau River hosted its 45th Annual Anishinabe First Nation Powwow over the past weekend.

An estimated 170 dancers gathered together to perform, visiting from all over North America including places like Iowa, North Dakota, Saskatchewan, Wisconsin, Alberta and Ontario.

A new planning committee was elected to run the Powwow and the members said they agreed that the Powwow ran smoothly, considering they only had a month and a half to organize the event.

Garett Henry, one of the committee members, said the Powwow drew in a different crowd than ever before – a goal they were hoping to achieve.

A grand prize of ten thousand dollars was given to the first place winners of the Singing Drum performance Battle River from Red Lake Minnesota. There were also second, third and fourth place winners who acquired eight thousand, six thousand and three thousand dollars.

Next year the committee is planning to fog again for mosquitos, something never done before this year's Powwow. The committee said they believed fogging increased the amount of attendees.
