More than $330,000 was raised Friday by the eight participants of the 4th STARS Air Ambulance Rescue on the Island, and I had the chance to tag along for the day.

The annual fundraiser saw eight Manitoba business leaders get “stranded on and island, and compete to reach their fundraising goals in order to earn a flight back to civilization.

Morning Show Co-Host Chris Sumner was invited to participate in a portion of the day on Carter Island, located on Eleanor Lake near Otter Falls int he Whiteshell. Simply beautiful country, and once you were on the island you definitely felt like you were stranded... minus the cell phone connection.

In between the challenges the participants had to complete, Chris had the chance to speak with one of them... Brad Lawson, President of Clark's Poultry based in Brandon.

Chris also spoke with STARS Air Ambulance Flight paramedic Troy Pauls about the importance of the Rescue on the Island event, and what it's like to be flying across Manitoba saving people's lives.

Since the event's inception in 2013 Rescue on the Island has raised over $1.08 million for STARS, which is a non-profit organization.

STARS responded to 568 emergencies in Manitoba in 2015, and is on pace to exceed that total this year.
