The Altona Bisons have moved on to round two of the Manitoba Junior Baseball League playoffs while the Pembina Valley Orioles post-season run came to an end Friday night.

Lawson McDonald had three hits including a home run and five rbi's as the defending champion Bisons defeated the St. James A's 14-4 in the deciding third game of their opening round series.

Brent Wiebe also had three hits for the Bisons who plated four runs in the first, second and fifth innings.

Altona will face the Winnipeg South Chiefs in the semifinals.

The Chiefs shutout Pembina Valley 10-0 in game three of their series at Charleswood Park.

The Orioles outscored Winnipeg South 12-11 in eight innings in game one on Wednesday but dropped a 6-3 decision to the Chiefs in game two Thursday night.

The Carillon Sultans will take on the Elmwood Giants in the other semifinal.

The Sultans scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning en route to a 6-3 victory over the St. Boniface Legionaires in the deciding third game of their series on Friday in Steinbach.

The Giants had a bye to round two.

The semifinals begin Monday at Charleswood Park and Koskie Field in Winnipeg.

The Orioles, Legionaires and A's will play a mini tournament to determine who will join the MJBL pennant winning Brandon Marlins at the Western Canada Championship from August 12-14.

Pembina Valley will meet St. James at Optimist Park on Monday, August 1st.

The Orioles face St. Boniface in Morden the following night.

The A's and Legionaires play the round robin finale Wednesday, August 3rd at Whittier Park.

The top two teams will play for the spot at the Western's on August 4th.

If the top seed finishes the round robin with 2-0 record then the second seed must win twice.
