Dan McCarthy is a Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada champion for the third time.

McCarthy fired a final round seven-under par 64 Sunday at the Niakwa Country Club in Winnipeg and finished the 72-hole event at 259 which was 25-under par.

“It feels amazing,” said the Syracuse, New York native. “It hasn't fully set in yet. I'm still kind of shaking here. I think I can take a week off.”

McCarthy, who has earned just over $105,000 in five tournaments on the Mackenzie Tour this year, previously won in Vancouver and Kelowna.

“It never gets old,” said the McCarthy. “It feels better every time. Every time is a new test so I'm very, very happy with what I did today.”

McCarthy finished seven shots ahead of Michael Gligic of Burlington, Ontario and Cameron Peck of Olympia, Washington.

“I had a couple of shaky moments out there,” McCarthy said. “It wasn't as easy as the score made it look. That was the plan all day was to keep my foot on the gas. I knew guys were going to make birdies in front of me. The conditions were pretty benign so I knew guys were going to go low. I figured if I went low then it would be tough to catch me.”

Aaron Cockerill, who was the lone Manitoban to make the cut, finished in a five-way tie for 31st place at minus 10.

“It was fun,” said the Gunton native who won the Manitoba Junior Championship in 2010. “There was a lot of people out there watching and I just wanted to obviously play as well as I could and make everyone proud. I kind of fought it a little bit coming in but made some good up and downs. Just happy with the week.”

Cockerill made good on his goal which was to shoot all four rounds in the 60's as he went 69, 68, 69 and 68.

“This is probably my best tournament in relation to par this year,” said Cockerill who is a Mackenzie Tour rookie. “Just try to basically build off it for the rest of the year. I felt like I played solid all week.”
