Your Zone 4 High School Soccer League Girls Champion - Morden Thunder

The Zone 4 Girls High School Soccer league belongs to the Morden Thunder after a 1-nil win over the Northlands Parkway Collegiate (NPC) Nighthawks Thursday night in Morden.

"Awesome. Now it's time for the provincials, next weekend. We are going to go there and hopefully win provincials," said Thunder coach Claes Aschberg.

It was within the first ten minutes that Erin Doherty was able to find the back of the net, which ended up being all Morden would need.

The first half the Thunder seemed to put a lot of pressure on the NPC. While in the second half the pressure reversed with NPC leading the way, but weren't able to knot the game up at one.

"That's the just the way it goes, if you have a lead in a soccer game and let back at all it's tough to get that momentum back," NPC coach Brent Prokopowich. "Once you are sitting back, the nerves are going, and we had some chances."

The Thunder will now represent the Zone at Provincials in Steinbach, October, 16 and 17th.

Zone 4 High School Soccer League, Boys champion - GVC Zodiacs

The Garden Valley Zodiacs are off to the Provincials after a 2-1 win over the W.C. Miller Aces in the Zone 4 High School Soccer League finals.

"They are estatic," said Zodiacs coach Lorne Warkentine when asked how the team is feeling. "I feel really happy for our grade twelves. It's a great way to cap their seasons. We are coming off a great day, because yesterday afternoon our cross country teams took home three banners in the zone. A lot of them were soccer players. They still haven't come down from that high, and now we have another banner. They are very happy, and looking forward to what we can do at provincials."

Waldemar Pries and Christian Andrade tallied for the Zodiacs, while Stephen Winkler replied for the Aces.

"They dominated posession, and it only takes one shot and you lose. Soccer is tough that way," said Aces coach Adam Mace.

The Zodiacs will now represent the Zone at Provincials in Steinbach, October, 16 and 17th.

The MHSAA today announced that the Miller boys have received an automatic wildcard berth into next weekends Provincial Rural High School Soccer Championship in Steinbach.  Morden will meet Edward Schryer School of Beausejour in a boys wildcard game. Miller will face Niverville and Northlands Parkway will take on Neepawa in the girls wildcard games. Morden girls and Garden Valley boys won the Zone 4 banners yesterday afternoon.
