Undefeated.

Winkler's Pee Wee "AA" baseball team went undefeated and mercy'd every team along the way to winning the Pee Wee Western Canada Baseball Championship in St. Albert earlier this month.

"I think as soon as we scored seven runs in the first inning out there it gave confidence to the whole lineup. For everyone in the lineup and even the guys sitting on the bench, that when ever their number was called or were up to bat, something good was going to happen," said co-coach Cameron Kirkby.

Winkler opened the Championship with a 18-4 win over the Prince Albert Royals, then a 17-1 win of the Camrose Cougars, then the most impressive win, a 29-5 route of the Chilliwack Cougars. Then they played the host St. Albert Cardinals and defeated them 20-3. Off to the gold medal game they went against the Camrose Cougars and for the second time in the tournament Winkler ended the game in five innings due to the mercy rule. This time however Winkler won it with a walk-off home run.

Yes, a walk-off mercy rule home run. The home run put the Winkler up by ten runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, causing the mercy rule to be implemented again.

"When Will hit that home run everyone was jacked up. They were throwing their stuff all over the place and went to hug him," said team member Myron Peters
