Today marks the start of the three day Morden Corn and Apple Festival, and it's an extra special edition.  This year marks half a century for the event.

Festival Chair, Lynda MacLean says the event which draws many thousands to the community each August started out in a very humble way, with a budget of $50.  The festival encompassed one block, and included a farmers market and a small stage on a flat deck trailer.  MacLean says the festival founders, all local businessmen, where just hoping to drum up some business for Morden.  "One supplied corn, one supplied the apples, one supplied the butter, they all had a different role to play," said MacLean.  "They had absolutely no thought of being here 50 years later."

MacLean says they hope the half century mark turns out to be a huge celebration, and anticipates it to be a homecoming for many as well.

The festival, now stretching out over roughly 8 downtown blocks, boasts the Wonder Shows midway, a wide variety of vendors, a farmers market, bus tours, and much more.  Festival goers also have 3 stages to check out.

There is again a great line-up of entertainment on the main stage this year.  Friday night The Hunter Brothers and Chad Brownlee will take to the stage.  Snake Oil performs Saturday evening followed up by The Trews.
