Manitoba housing is excited to have completed a number of renovations at the Altona Friendship Manor.

The building which was built in 1971, currently has 17 units in the facility.

Acting Executive Director for Property Services, John Snezyk shared what upgrades have been included.

"The renovations included some common area refresh, flooring, new kitchen, new laundry area and new energy efficient lighting. We got an accessible washroom there, new furniture, mechanical and fire life safety upgrade and painting to the common areas throughout the building. I think it really compliments the needs of some of the tenants and helps extend the life of the building."

Snezyk noted the improved lighting gives residents the opportunity to read books, do puzzles and play games in the common area.

Meanwhile. he explained it's always been important to the organization to enhance it's buildings.

"We have always had capital planning to bring our properties up to today's building codes and to preserve the asset and to enhance the properties for tenant like at Altona here. It's like any other home where you got to invest in the property to preserve the property."

Snezyk added in the recent years the organization has looked to identify buildings in need that are past their life expectancy and address their concerns.

The total cost of the Altona Friendship Manor project totalled $252,000.
