Growth, Enterprise and Trade Minister Cliff Cullen says the government is working to improve economic conditions in the province.

Cullen spent time in northern Manitoba in mid September visiting communities facing some economic challenges.

“Certainly there are some challenges especially in northern Manitoba with businesses looking to shut down or sell and that creates uncertainty with people” said Cullen.

He added the government is aware of the situation and there is work going on behind the scenes to reach a solution to help those communities.

“Some of the challenges and situations are beyond government's control. For us as a government our job is to get the fundamentals right in terms of attracting investment to Manitoba.”

Cullen says the key is to make sure the government has the right structure in place so businesses and investments can be attracted to the province.

The most recent development has been news of a potential deal to save Tolko in The Pas.
