Provencher Member of Parliament Ted Falk says he and his Conservative colleagues will not stop in their efforts to try and get the Liberal Government to change its plans of introducing a carbon tax. He adds this tax will impose hardship on many Canadians.

"We've looked at different scenarios and it appears on something as simple as gasoline, we could see the price affected by 11.5 cents per litre just for the carbon tax. We know it's going to cost Canadians thousands of dollars a year if the carbon tax is unilaterally implemented across Canada."

Falk says he agrees with the need to be good stewards of our resources and the environment but says he doesn't think raising taxes on carbon fuels is the way to achieve that goal.

"As Conservatives, we're not convinced that it's going to significantly change people's habits or consumption of products just because there's an additional tax. We haven't seen previously, when the price of gas goes up, that people curb their driving habits. People still need to go from point A to point B or to and from work, that doesn't change. We think putting the burden of that well-intentioned tax on the backs of Canadian families is actually going to be detrimental to our economy. It's not going to create jobs, it's not going to spur additional growth in the economy and we actually think it's going to have a negative effect."
