Altona and RM of Morris Fire Departments responded to a call Monday afternoon at around 5:30 pm.

A couple of acres of field had caught fire along Provincial Road 332, near the border of the RM of Rhineland and RM of Morris.

Altona Lieutenant Terry Fehr explains how the fire started.

“They said a belt on a combine was getting hot, and maybe the belt fell off and lit the stubble on fire,” he said.

Fehr noted they had trouble getting on to the field because of the soft conditions, however they were able to contain the fire within about an hour and a half.

There were no injuries.
