Winkler Minor Hockey (WMH) is working to find ice time for roughly 200 players as the Plum Coulee Arena undergoes repairs.

A fire in May heavily damaged the Plum Coulee Arena, which was often used as a second sheet of ice for Winkler Minor Hockey (WMH). League President Ed Penner explains it's been a challenge to ensure everyone has ice time for practices and games.

"We've had to take a couple steps to make it work," he said. "All teams have been sharing ice for practices, to double up our ice and we also cancelled all of our tournaments, which freed up about fifty to sixty game slots."

Penner noted the parents have been understanding of the situation.

In the mean time, the organization also hopes to find ice time in other communities in the Pembina Valley. Vice President Sheldon Neufeld noted a number of communities have made ice available to them.

"Morden has offered us an ice slot for us on Friday's," said Neufeld. "As well as Miami has stepped up, and offered a lot of their ice slots for us. Possibly Roland as well. There is a lot out there, it's just more travelling if we want to go that route."

Penner explained splitting the practice ice in half and eliminating tournaments for the year has also helped find the required ice time.
