An indie-folk band from Morden called "Lakes and Pines" is raising money for their debut album through an Indiegogo campaign.

The group of five local musicians hopes to raise $7,000, and there's a gift attached to each donation of $15 or more. The gifts start at a digital download of the new CD for $15 and stretch to an entire crate of prizes and services by the band--that costs $1,000

Florian Lassnig came to Manitoba from Austria and says there's a community and friendliness here that doesn't exist in other provinces or countries. He said this is the inspiration for the band's style," Classis Manitoba"

"The themes are a lot about Manitoba, a lot about friendship, a lot about long cold winters," said Lassnig who plays violin in the band.

"There's some serious tones to it," said vocalist and guitarist, Patrick Simeons.

"There's a lot of personal subject matter in there as far as dealing with loss of loved ones."

The band has saved their own money to pay for the recording session, but they need more to fully finish the record.

John Paul Peters, with Private Ear Recording in Winnipeg, will record, mix, and publish the album.
