The following is the Morden Police Service report for the period of November 21, 2016 to November 28, 2016, as submitted by the department.

November 21st, 2016

In 2014, a joint forces operation between Morden Police Service, Winkler Police Service and the RCMP called Project DENVER, targeted drug trafficking and criminal activity in the Pembina Valley area. As a result, several individuals were charged with various offences. One of these individuals recently appeared in Portage La Prairie Queen’s Bench Court and was found guilty of Trafficking in a Controlled Substance; namely cocaine. The accused was found to be in possession of half a pound of cocaine. Brett Ashton Krashel will appear back in court March 3rd, 2017 for sentencing. Krashel was also charged in relation to this project and found guilty of 2 counts of Breach of Recognizance and received a fine.

November 22nd, 2016

Police received a report of damage to a window in a home on Wardrop Street, believed to have been caused by a BB or pellet gun. Last week, the owners of the home heard a noise but did not think anything of it until noticing today that one of their windows had a hole in it. Police spoke with neighbors in the area but did not come up with any information related to the damage. November 23rd, 2016

Police received a report of a hit and run accident that occurred on November 19th between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm in the parking lot of the Access Event Centre in Morden. The owner returned to their vehicle to find damage to the driver’s side door. The vehicle that was damaged is a 2013 brown Honda Civic. November 25th, 2016

A 17 year old male youth has been charged with one count of possession of marihuana, possession for the purpose of trafficking as well as breach of probation following an incident this date. Around 10:10 am, police received an anonymous call advising there was an individual smoking marihuana by the Morden Collegiate. A description was provided and police attended to find the youth standing by the school with two other individuals. The suspect had a strong odor of marihuana coming from his clothing and was arrested for possession. The youth turned over four small baggies with marihuana along with a bat and box used to smoke marihuana. Police spoke with the parents of the youth who advised that there was more marihuana at home in the youth’s backpack. The youth is also on probation for a previous charge and will be appearing in Morden Provincial Court in January.

November 25th, 2016

Police received a call around 8:20 pm of a male and female arguing at the apartment on Stephen Street in Morden. The caller advised that a female voice was heard screaming to call the police. Police attended the apartment and spoke to a male who advised that the couple was arguing over some medication that had gone missing. The female indicated that the male slapped her across the face at which time she began yelling for someone to call police. Also in the home was a child who confirmed having seen his dad slap his mom. The male suspect was arrested for assault and removed from the home. He was released on a Promise to Appear with an undertaking and conditions. He is charged with one count of assault as well as one count of breach of probation. He will be appearing in Morden Provincial Court in January.

November 26th, 2016

Police received a report of mischief to a vehicle, which may have happened while parked at Tim Horton’s in Morden. The owner parked his 2014 red Dodge Dart in the south parking lot around 10:30 pm and returned at 12:30 am to find scratches along the trunk and rear driver’s side panel of his vehicle. The owner does not recall any damage to his vehicle before being at this location. November 26th, 2016

A 17-year-old female youth has been charged with taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and as a novice driver, operate a class 5 vehicle without a supervising driver. The owner of the vehicle allowed the youth to be alone at her residence to wait for a ride. Around 10:30 pm while at the residence, the youth located the owner’s keys to her vehicle and drove to Winkler without asking permission. The youth returned to Morden using gravel roads and lost control of the vehicle, hitting the ditch. The youth attempted to drive the vehicle out, but was unable to and called a tow truck. The vehicle was pulled out of the ditch and the youth proceeded to drive the vehicle back to the residence and park it, with substantial damage caused to the front and back of the vehicle. The owner confronted the youth at which time she admitted to taking the vehicle and causing the damage. She will be appearing in Morden Provincial Court in January.
