The Plum Coulee Fire Department is getting a new pumper truck.

Rhineland municipality has purchased a 2012 model from a seller in the United States. The vehicle will replace the older model truck the department has been using for the past number of years.

"A new replacement would have cost close to $400,000, but we were fortunate to find a deal online in the U.S," said reeve Don Wiebe. "It's a used 2012 model with few miles on it with a new pump and it has a foam option. We sent our public works director and the fire chief to take a look at it and we're very excited about the purchase."

Wiebe explains the municipality was able to get a discount on the fire truck as the result of a business closure in the state of Iowa.

"There are some moderations that have be made to it and some of the specs have to be changed, but we feel it is a great option and we're getting it for about $199,000 U.S."

The pumper truck is expected to arrive in January.
