A new crosswalk was installed in August at the corner of North Railway Street and Mountain St. South in Morden.

Mountain St. is a provincial road so the City of Morden needed approval to install the crosswalk. After testing the level of pedestrian traffic at the intersection, the Province determined that the numbers didn't justify a crosswalk.

but, the City of Morden decided to build the crosswalk anyway as it knew the intersection was busy and dangerous for pedestrians.

"The City of Morden knew there was a lot of pedestrian traffic," said Morden Police Chief Brad Neduzak.

"[The City] decided to place a pedestrian crosswalk there," he said.

Neduzak encouraged drivers to take extra care in the area as the crosswalk is new and they could easily miss it.

"Drivers can make themselves aware of the pedestrian crosswalks. Slow down and watch for anybody wanting to cross, take their time, and be ready to yield and stop for the pedestrians."

The crosswalk is part of the City's initiative to encourage walking downtown and throughout the community.
