All the rain in July has created some flooding issues at Oakview Golf and Country Club near Gretna.

The course has closed because of wet conditions six times already this summer.

Clubhouse manager, Jacob Fehr described what kind of condition the course has been in lately.

"The other day again, we had another inch of rain.  The course was to the point of being unplayable so we've actually had to close the course a number of different times this year because of the rains.  We did finally get going again on Sunday morning.  Two of our cartpaths were underwater.  The water was almost up to the floorboards of the cart.  The fairways had dried out nicely from the sun so we were still able to golf yesterday.  We have had quite a few days this year we have had to close and that's not the norm."

Fehr noted the course still has a few wet spots; however the grounds crews continue to keep the course in good shape.

He shared which areas of the course are impacted the most by the flooding.

"The number one hole is usually the worst one," explained Fehr.  "We closed an old creek and put culverts in a number of years ago.  Now with the heavy rains the creek kind of makes it's own path again.  Number one is wet and we can't drive our carts all the way on number one and number five is kind of always a wet area as well.  In general the course is in very nice shape."

He encouraged golfers to use common sense and avoid areas where you can see standing water.

Meanwhile, Fehr stated the weather definitely impacts local business.

"It definitely does, especially if we have to close on a weekend.   That's when we have a lot of green fee players, so that does make a difference.  We have been fortunate with the weather earlier on, are memberships are up and in general everything is looking very positive once again."

Fehr added despite the weather they are still getting golfers out from other communities including Winkler.

He said the rain has caused a few tournaments to be rescheduled but no case where the round couldn't be played.
