A large pine tree was struck by lightning early Saturday evening in Altona.  The incident took place in the front yard of a residence on Westwood Crescent shortly after 6 p.m.

There was no damage to the tree or the home; however, the strike wrecked some electrical components inside the house.

The tree which held a string of Christmas lights were also ruined after the impact.

The Altona Police Service and Fire Department arrived on the scene and inspected the inside of the house for heat sources.  All tests were well within parameters.

Christmas light bulbs were blown after lightning struck the tree.
