The Municipality of Emerson-Franklin received a grant for $10,000 in November from the Provincial Tourism Development Fund Grant.

The Tourism Development Fund is a program administered by Manitoba Growth, Enterprise and Trade. The program provides financial support for projects that develop new or enhance existing tourism products.

"The Roseau River is seeing a growing popularity for canoeing, tubing and kayaking so we have decided to GPS map 40 kilometres of the river to provide more details to tourists, and those already enjoying the river," said Emerson-Franklin Tourism Coordinator Wayne Arseny.

The Mapping will start in Stuartburn and make it's way to the bridge located on Highway 218. Arseny mentioned the new mapping will provide better safety, and check points for different levels of adventure.

Along with the GPS mapping Arseny noted the $10,000 grant will also be used for signage, and the creation of some rest stops. Designated rest stops will address the difficulty of pulling your canoe over, giving the traveller the opportunity to use the washroom and stretch.

"Destinations like ORoseau, Roseau River Park, and surrounding communities like St Malo will be given the chance to get involved, by supplying overnight rest stops, restaurants, and grocery stores to travellers," said Arseny.

The new mapping and information should be available online by spring, just in time for the 2017 summer season. Arseny mentioned that he currently is looking for someone living in the area that might be interested in setting up their own shuttle service to bring those traveling the river back to their vehicles.
