Children's Camps International announced the return of a world-record harvest attempt in Winkler. The date with Guinness World Records is set for August 5, 2017 to break the record of most combines harvesting simultaneously on the same field.

CCI VP of Operations Mark Bergen explains they hope to host 300 combines. Two lines of rumbling farm machinery, each a mile long, will meet in the middle of the 320 acre field South of Winkler.

Organizers hope to raise $3,000,000 to send children to their camping ministries around the world.

CCI originally broke the unofficial record for fastest harvest in 2006 when 100 combines harvested a 160 acres of wheat South of Winkler in just 11 minutes. Since then, Bergen says many have waited for the event to return.

To reach the record-breaking numbers, he says they will be looking for drivers in the Steinbach, Niverville, Portage and Brandon areas.

"The combines are out there, and we're hoping they'll see the vision and the impact they're going to have by coming out," Bergen says.

A 2009 attempt in Ireland by Combines 4 Charity took the record boasting 175 combines.

Then in 2010 the record returned to CCI with 200 combines South of Winkler. Later in 2012, CCI's Saskatchewan office broke the same record with 244 combines.

"Now it's our turn," Bergen says.

The day will also feature a farm show and international food expo.
