The Rosenfeld and District Skating Club is planning to make some upgrades to their outdoor rink for this winter.

The Club received a Community Places grant worth $28,000 to go towards a new cement pad.

Chairman, Warren Schroeder shared the total cost of the project

“Right now with a lot of donations, the estimated value is $56,000. We are still a little bit shy but we do have some funds coming in and our hope is to be able to do it this fall yet.”

Schroeder stated the upgrade began last summer after the rink purchased an actual set of boards from the Washington Capitals practice arena.

He describes the communities response so far.

“It has been great from the community,” stated Schroeder. “Altogether we have probably raised close to $100,000 with both projects of the boards and the cement pad. We have also bought a Zamboni for this coming winter so there were many projects going on and the community has helped a lot.”

Schroeder noted the cement pad surface will also be able to accommodate various summer activities like tennis and rollerblading.

With the upgrades, the Club hopes to make the Rosenfeld rink into one of the nicest outdoor skating facilities in southern Manitoba.
