For the most part, cattle producers have been pleased with the milder conditions this winter.

Carson Callum is general manager of Manitoba Beef Producers.

"This winter's definitely been a lot milder than some and that has helped in the whole feeding stock situation," he said. "Not as much feed, having to go out from the bunks to keep these animals happy when it's a little milder out. Those cold temperatures we had, the last number of weeks, definitely would have increased the amount of feed being used but I think after production of last year and on top of the more milder winter, I think folks still have a pretty good situation in terms of feed availability."

Callum notes the cold snap over the past couple of weeks probably had more impact on some of the water lines and all of the challenges associated with that.

He says lack of moisture is a concern for some producers.
