Manitoba Agriculture says pasture and hayland conditions are rated as fair to poor in most areas of the province, and future forage production will be impacted by early cattle turnout.

John McGregor provides extension support for the Manitoba Forage and Grassland Association (MFGA).

"I did check a couple of alfalfa fields and basically what I'm seeing is that it's not growing very quickly. We do have some growth showing up, but the fields they look to be about three to five inches in height."

As it sits right now, McGregor says 'hay day' could arrive sometime during the first 10 days of June.

However, he notes that could change quickly if temperatures warm up and we get some more rain.

MFGA is still looking for producers to participate in the Green Gold sampling program.
