The 14th annual Discover Agriculture in the City event is an excellent way for urban consumers to learn more about where their food comes from.

The Forks Market in Winnipeg is hosting the event today.

Richard Lavergne is the regional manager for communications with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.

"Agriculture is such a huge impact, not only on our economy, but on our standard of living and I think it's important for urban Canadians, who don't necessarily equate agriculture to what they do every day. So it's a really good opportunity for us to promote the research that we do and all the good things that come out of agriculture."

Some of the events happening today include the University of Manitoba Food Fight followed by presentations from farmers.

There will also be hand-on activities for the whole family including butter making, canola crushing, making power from potatoes, and looking at cattle production through virtual reality glasses.
